The museum is free (donations invited) and the rail trip costs $14 for adults (reduced for juniors). However as he pointed out as he doesn`t actually get paid the pay rise wasn't much (well nothing in fact). The conductor told us that he was recently promised a pay rise of 20%. The train runs Fri, Sat & Sun during the summer from Phoenicia to Cold break and back, The volunteers are very welcoming and good humoured. and lasts over 90 mins - taking you through the wooded countryside, alongside rivers, past graxzing deer (if you are lucky a bear or two) and across roads - it was fun to see the traffic backed up for our little train. Whilst more rolling stock and a steam loco are in the pipeline, currently the rail trip consists of a small (quaint) diesal engine, a passenger carriage and an open air 'gondala'. The museum has a splendid display of information, models and posters of the bygone years - 600,000 passensges passed through Phoenicia back in the late 1880's. This comprises both of a museum and a working railway which has excurisions down (and back) its line. Now various volunteer networks are being established to re-open the complete railway system in the Catskill and in the Empire State Railway museum, which is part of the Catskill Mountain Rail Road, you have one. Phoenicia was once a bustling railroad junction taking hot city folk arrving at Kingston into the cool peaceful mountains.
